not ready to stop. That's why when she was diagnosed with osteoporosis two years ago during a routine bone scan suggested by her physician, she looked at it as just another challenge to overcome in her life.
"I always thought, ‘that’s for older people—it’s not going to happen to me.' I was very surprised when my doctor told me I had osteoporosis. I’m just glad there’s something I can do about it and that I can be proactive," Marilyn said.
Aside from taking her once-monthly
osteoporosis medication, Marilyn builds bone strength by eating a balanced diet and taking calcium and vitamin D supplements. Marilyn also enjoys working in her garden and going to the gym three times a week.
For Marilyn, it’s the best way to stay in shape for her daily activities, which includes her volunteer work at an animal clinic in Detroit.
Aside from the personal health benefits, her favorite reward for treating her bones right? A wagging tail or a nonstop purr wins her over.
