Here are real women's stories that inspire me to not let osteoporosis slow me down. Each month, I will feature a new Bone Diva who I hope will encourage you to make the promise for better bone health, like we did.

Every time she feels the beach between her toes, Anita Greenstein of Fort Pierce, Florida, knows she's on the right (if sandy) track.
It's the perfect way to start the day, doing something good for yourself.
The key to regular exercise is finding a workout packed with pleasure as well as a healthy pay-off. For the 60-year old, that means embracing her love of the outdoors, with activities like water sports and walking barefoot 3 miles a day on the beach with a friend. It's something she has built up to over a period of time, and it has paid off in many ways.

“It’s the perfect way to start the day, doing something good for yourself,” said Anita, who retired from a career as a massage therapist to move to a beachfront condominium with her husband, a retired psychologist.

To start her day right, she also has a calcium-rich breakfast of either milk with cereal or yogurt. And she knows her bones are protected with the help of her osteoporosis medication, which she has been taking for more than a year.

"My experience has been absolutely positive. My doctor tells me I've gained bone density," said Anita, who was diagnosed with osteoporosis at age 51.

She shares her bone health know-how with friends and family, particularly her daughter, a marathon runner who is also small-boned.

"We keep each other up-to-date. Family support really matters when you're trying to stay healthy," added Anita.
