Pat was lucky enough to catch her osteoporosis early on. And after starting a prescription medication, her bone density tests have started to show improvements. "It was never something I thought about when I was younger," said Pat. "There was so much I could have been doing for my bones, so much that everyone can do, even from a young age."
In addition to taking her osteoporosis medication, Pat takes calcium and vitamins. She takes walks and goes to the gym to exercise. "I am so much more aware of my bones," says Pat. "Although I probably don't exercise as much as I should, I always feel so good once I've done it."
A lover of books, Pat is also an advocate for education. As a member of the Chesterfield Township Friends of the Library, Pat donates books and volunteers on a monthly basis. She notes that "learning is much easier if you enjoy reading, and so I try to promote that as much as possible."
"I tell other women my story," she says, "After all that I have witnessed in my life I tell them that they should be tested early."
