Sally's Bone Diva®
Here are real women's stories that inspire me to not let osteoporosis slow me down. I will feature a new Bone Diva who I hope will encourage you to make the promise for better bone health, like we did.

After Karen slipped, fell, and injured her elbow 11 years ago, her doctor conducted a
bone mineral density (BMD) test. The test revealed that Karen had osteoporosis and her doctor immediately started her on medication, as well as calcium and vitamin D supplements, to help improve her bone health. Over the last two years, Karen's bone loss has not only stopped, it reversed; her most recent BMD test showed improvements in both her hips and spine.

Karen was aware of her risks for osteoporosis - she had a family history with the condition and discussed it with her doctor prior to her accident. Since her diagnosis, Karen has become very vocal about the importance of bone health among her close circle of friends. She encourages them to receive BMD tests if appropriate, talk to their doctors about bone health, and maintain a healthy diet and regular exercise program.

Karen is also committed to her own exercise program. She walks her dogs 2-3 miles each day and started tai chi classes. Tai chi has become her favorite activity and she never misses a class. She especially likes it because it helps with her balance, which can help prevent a fall.

Now a retired pediatric nurse, Karen spends her free time buying and selling antiques and collecting vintage sewing machines and china. She is also very active with animal rescue and currently has two dogs and three cats.
