Sally's Monthly Journal July 2007
spacer It's been an exciting few months for me. May was National Osteoporosis Awareness Month, which brought me to Washington, D.C., to rally the women of Congress to take care of their bones. In the House and Senate today, there are a record- high 90 women in Congress and they are led by our nation's first Madam Speaker of the House.
I went to Capitol Hill to urge these amazing women to learn more about the importance of bone health as part of my new "Start Right, Stay Strong" Challenge. As women, we need to commit to making our bone health a priority and taking four simple steps to keep our bones strong. The steps include starting right by getting a bone mineral density (BMD) test to know your risk for fracture. Then commit to staying strong by getting adequate calcium and vitamin D, exercising regularly, and, if you are prescribed a medication by your doctor, taking it as directed.

In June, I traveled to Pinehurst, North Carolina, the home of the 2007 U.S. Women’s Open golf championship. I got the chance to have my first golf lesson! And I had the opportunity to rally women at the event to make a commitment to keep their bones healthy.

Please help me keep the momentum going in the fight against osteoporosis. Take the "Start Right, Stay Strong" Challenge today and tell a friend to do the same.

And now that the beautiful summer weather is here, download the "Start Right, Stay Strong: Bone-Healthy Golf Guide" to learn about all the bone-building benefits of walking the course.

Until next time, be well and stay strong.
Signed, Sally Field

Look for Sally's next journal entry in August, as well as other information on managing postmenopausal osteoporosis. Talk to your doctor about how to manage your bone health, including diet, exercise, and treatment options.
