Sometimes during those rainy winter days it was hard to believe that this month would come. But now I am so grateful that it's here and that I have the time and the health to enjoy it. What are you thankful for this month?
Gardening is a huge part of my life-almost an obsession. Over the past few months, I have been steadily working on my garden. I've used some tried-and-true methods from years past, and some new techniques that I picked up during my visit to the Northwest Flower & Garden Show.
Of course gardening has provided so much more for me than the pretty view I have from my window or the lovely area I get to spend time in each day. The process of digging and planting, of watering and clipping and weeding, has amounted to hours of weight-bearing exercise that are helping to make my bones stronger. And the time spent outdoors in the sunshine has helped boost my levels of vitamin D, and therefore my body's calcium absorption.

Did you know, the link between gardening and bone health is becoming more evident as research has reiterated the benefits of a continued active lifestyle? The Bone Health and Osteoporosis Report from the Surgeon General stated that the foundation of a good physical activity regimen involves at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity every day including activities such as gardening.
I have heard from many of you over the past couple of years and would love to hear from others who are going through the same battle as we are. Please continue to share your stories here so that you too may be featured as a Bone Diva in an upcoming journal entry.
