I will have new resolutions for the coming year, but I will also hold on to what's worked for me in the
past. One thing I have learned is how important it is to give yourself some slack. But that only works
if you've earned it by exercising self-control.
This philosophy really pays off during the holidays – the season of sweets and rich foods in many households and a time when many people huddle with warm drinks indoors rather than heading outside to exercise.
When it comes to sweets, I try not to have that notion of being "tempted" in my life. It's too negative. If I want to have a bite of something, I do. I make a really good pecan pie with homemade whipped cream on top. |

After three or four bites, I think, “That was good,” but I really don't want any more of it. I'm not a big sweets person. More of a biscuits and honey gal.
And when it comes to exercise during the holidays, I look at the glass as half full. I'm usually so busy that it's almost like a gift to get a holiday break and have time to work out. I treat myself to something different, like Pilates or swimming. That's my present to myself.
Happy Holidays to you, and see you in the New Year!
