The year got off to a great start in
February when I got the good news that—after a year on treatment—my BMD (bone mineral density) test indicated that the progression of my bone loss from osteoporosis had stopped. It was just one year earlier that a BMD test first indicated I had osteoporosis.
After a year, I've grown in other ways as well. The opportunity to travel the country and meet with so many of you who are as committed as I am to educating others about bone health makes me stronger in my belief that we can make a difference.
If you haven't done so, talk to your doctor and find out if you should get a BMD test. Don't wait. If your doctor discovers you have bone loss from osteoporosis, you'll be confident in knowing that there are things that you can do.

And while you're at it, pick up the phone or send an e-mail to your mom, your daughter, and your friends and ask them to take that same simple first step.
If you have already had your test and are diagnosed with osteoporosis, I'd love to hear about your progress. How far have you come in this year? Please let me know by sharing your story here.
The year is coming to an end, but you'll be hearing from me next year as we have a lot of wonderful events planned to help spread the word about bone health. We're making a difference, ladies—by pulling together.
Happy holidays and stay strong,

Look for Sally's next journal entry in
January, as well as other information on managing postmenopausal osteoporosis. Talk to your doctor about how to manage your bone health, including diet, exercise, and treatment options.
