
It’s important that the women you care about are aware of their risk factors and what they can do to help maintain or improve their bone health, such as weight-bearing exercises, increasing calcium and vitamin D intake and, if appropriate, talking to a doctor about getting a bone mineral density (BMD) test.
According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, osteoporosis affects 1 in 2 women and 1 in 4 men over the age of 50. In 2005 alone, osteoporosis-related fractures were responsible for approximately $19 billion in costs. This number is expected to increase to more than $25 billion by 2025.

These numbers are staggering and further stress the importance of maintaining and improving your bone health, talking to your doctor about the risk factors, and spreading the word to your friends and family.
