Sally's Monthly Journal Entry #2
spacer

I just welcomed my third grandchild. A beautiful baby boy named Noah who arrived May 15, weighing 7 lbs. 2 oz. For me, this means new life, sweet smiles, and surprises.
Family has always been the center of my life and that wonderful circle just keeps growing. This month, the whole family is taking a trip together to Hawaii. We're a huge, warm, wonderful gang of more than 20 now, including my mother, sister and brother, my three sons, my two little granddaughters and all the significant others.

I'll be packing for fun, which means plenty of exercise to keep my bones strong.

I've been thinking lately that life is all about learning - even when you're 59 years old. One thing I keep relearning is not to be too hard on yourself.

I think about that because I've been on the road working for the past few weeks, so I have to get back on track with exercising. I'm a list-maker and setting up a new exercise routine is literally on my list today. I'm going to go to my local gym, look into some classes, maybe get a trainer.

spacer I had been doing yoga and hiking before I went on the road. Now I feel like I need some strength training. I have free weights at home, but being in a class inspires me to stay motivated.

It's important to push yourself to do what's good for you - even if it's not second nature. I'm really not a breakfast person. But I've been trying hard to start my day off right by eating a little carton of 99% fat free yogurt. I don't eat bread either, so I try to add some grains like a healthy granola to the yogurt.

Oddly enough, we've had some incredibly cool weather in LA lately. For dinner, I've been getting nice and cozy with a bowl of homemade soup, packed with beans and kale, sometimes with some fresh spinach. My mother, who was diagnosed with osteoporosis after I was, is living with me now and we like to share this simple dinner together.

Until next time, keep well and stay strong.
Signed, Sally Field
