Sally's Monthly Journal Entry #27
spacer As the summer comes to an end, I find the dates on my calendar slowly beginning to fill up and I start planning for a busy schedule.
The fall is always so hectic—with the back-to-school frenzy, work-schedules picking up, and the return from vacation. During this busy season, it becomes even more important to make sure you make time for healthy behaviors and help your friends do the same, by spreading the word about good bone health.

This fall, I'm back on the road to spread the word about osteoporosis. I have two big events in California in September and October. The first is an appearance at the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) annual meeting on September 18th. I will have a chance to share my personal osteoporosis story with the physicians in attendance, and in the process, encourage them to talk with their female patients about the risks of osteoporosis.

Then in October for the first time, I will be attending the annual Women's Conference, hosted by Maria Shriver on Wednesday, October 22nd. This is an exciting event that sold out in only three hours! It aims to bring together
spacer and empower women to be agents of change. I'll be at this year's conference to participate in a women's health panel discussion where I will emphasize the importance of osteoporosis awareness. I can't wait to share these experiences with all of you in the upcoming months.

At both these events I look forward to connecting with women around the issue of bone health, and talking specifically about how we all can help spread the word. There are more than 8 million women who have been diagnosed with bone loss who are not taking medication—that's a huge number! And calcium, vitamin D, and exercise are often not enough to help stop and prevent bone loss. What are some of the things you all are doing, or could be doing, to encourage these women to get the treatment they need? Let me know so I can learn from each of you. We are in this together.

Stay strong,

Signed, Sally Field
